My turn.
Over at the America blog (of all places) we learn that Obama is REALLY serious about listening to the pro-life side because of his appointment of Tim Kaine to head the DNC.
It's bad enough when a Jesuit magazine/website publishes something that is anti-Church; it's doubly depressing when a Jesuit magazine/website publishes something that is just plain DUMB.
I'll come back (after getting Caleb to school) with the loooooooooooooooooong list of rabid abortionists Obama has appointed to cabinet positions. Which just might tell us more about Obama and his intentions viz a viz abortion than the single appointment of Tim Kaine.
Sheesh.
-K.

Keep in mind the author of that entry is Michael Sean Winters, whom I believe is PRECISELY the sort of person at whom the appointment of Gov. Kaine was aimed.

Joe,
You hit the nail right on the head, with regards to Micheal Sean Winters. My biggest criticism of America Magazine's and its blog is the lack of editorial balance. The Society of Jesus has to many voices over such a broad spectrum, to be pigeon holed in such a slanted political and theological biases, it is unfair to the Society and the Church in general. I hope that the new provincials will make a serious effort to change the editorial direction of America Magazine.

Joseph, I so seldom disagree with you that I find it scary, but...
"Editorial balance?" MSW has been a cheerleader for Obama from day one. Obama is the most radical pro-abortion candidate, and now president, anyone could have conjured in their wildest nightmares.
MSW doesn't represent a lack of balance. He represents exactly what is wrong with the Jesuits -- as the Pope tried to explain to them a year ago when he told them to clean up their act.
Not only have they NOT cleaned up their act, but their love affair with Obama has been painful to watch, and has made me give up hope. They are beyond help short of papal or supernatural intervention.
The good news is that I still have hope that one or both of those things is entirely possible.

Yeah I saw that on their blog the other day and left a comment on the so-called pro-lifer Kaine.
The problem with America Magazine is not their editorial balance, it is not have a Catholic perspective. Often you can't tell the Obama boosterism from any Liberal site. I don't want conservative/liberal editorial balance. I want the Catholic faith applied to the world and not the other way around.

Now he is gushing about pro-abortion Gupta. He is totally shameless.

Regarding their love affair with Sen.Obama, if they really Loved him, wouldn't they be trying to convert him to the Truth rather than denying the Truth?

There is no salvation outside of a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, John 3:3-18 3Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
10Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man £who is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in Him should £not perish but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
"That whoever believes in Him..." not whoever belongs to a certain order, not whoever venerates the pope (which is forbidden by scripture [sola scriptura]), not whoever worships the dead (saints), not whoever worships Mary (Father forgive them), but whoever believes in Him... that's the TRUE Catholic (universal) Church, that's the TRUE body of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that's whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life and will stand blameless before God on the Great Day of the Lord. Not becasue of good works we have done, but because of what Jesus Christ paid for on the cross.
Repent and worship and venerate mere men no more but worship and venerate God Almighty alone. Worship the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit only!!
Love in Jesus Christ,
Dennis
