Yet Another Sign That Obama is Serious About Listening to Pro-Lifers
I wonder what the America blog will do with this one.
From the Washington Times:
Social conservatives are mobilizing to prevent President-elect Barack Obama's nominee, Thomas Perrelli, from becoming the next U.S. associate attorney general - the No. 3 post at the Justice Department. In a Jan. 6 story in The Washington Times, veteran reporters Stephen Dinan and Jerry Seper show that prominent special interest groups, such as the Traditional Values Coalition and the Family Research Council, are urging Republicans to oppose Mr. Perrelli's appointment.
It is rare for a sub-Cabinet nominee to generate such fierce criticism, but Mr. Perrelli deserves it. He was one of the lawyers responsible for the death of Terry Schiavo. While representing Mrs. Schiavo's husband, Michael, Mr. Perrelli played a key role in having the Florida woman's feeding tube forcibly removed. The 2005 landmark right-to-die case rightly outraged the pro-life community. As Mrs. Schiavo lay in a coma, her parents and siblings repeatedly said they were willing to take full responsibility, including paying for her medical care. Mr. Schiavo refused. He ordered her feeding at the hospital to be terminated - an act of coldblooded murder.
Read the rest here.
I especially like the ending:
Mr. Obama regularly throws a few crumbs to so-called "values voters" - Catholics, evangelicals, Protestant Southerners, Orthodox Jews - by inviting a pro-life pastor, such as the Rev. Rick Warren, to deliver the invocation at the inauguration or talk about the need to "reduce the number of abortions."
But this is cheap symbolism and crass political pandering. His actions - and policy proposals - tell a different story: He is filling key positions with rabid pro-choice social liberals; he has openly said abortion is a matter of "reproductive justice." He has promised the pro-abortion lobby to nominate justices to the Supreme Court that will ferociously defend Roe v. Wade; and he has expressed "regret" for not opposing the GOP on the Schiavo case.
Mr. Obama is a prophet, but a prophet of the culture of death. He refuses to lift a finger to protect the most vulnerable and innocent in our society - the unborn. He now wants to appoint Mr. Schiavo's lawyer to a senior Justice Department position and he must be stopped in his tracks. Conservatives must vociferously object: Mr. Obama needs to know Terry Schiavo has not been forgotten - and that her death was not in vain.
Okay, Michael Sean Winters. Time to explain that Tim Kaine balances it all out.

I wonder what Douglas Kmiec has to say about this little development...maybe someone with better writing skills than I should find out:

I don't think the America blog writers or Doug Kmiec are all that surprised at these choices by Obama. You would have to be completely out of touch with reality to expect something other than what he has done. I fear it is too late to do anything about these and future ones now other than pray that their pro-death positions don't gain too much traction.

I can't imagine that they are surprised at all. Kmiec and company knew they were making a deal with the devil, basically.
It should be interesting to listen to Catholic Obama supporters contort themselves as they attempt to justify Obama's actions in the "reproductive health" area in the coming years. More likely, I expect we will hear very little, except when it comes to Obama's tremendous strides toward "social justice." Which always seems to include everyone expect children in the womb.

The Democrat's version of "social justice" not only excludes children in the womb, it also excludes the profoundly mentally disabled. For reference, see Terry Schiavo and Haleigh Poutre.
Well...it used to be the profoundly mentally disabled. Now, with Martin Ryan, it's the in-any-way-mentally-impaired. Demonic is the only way to describe what happens when Democrats get "compassionate."

America Magazine and it's blog won't object to this sort of prospective nominee, or any others that are similar to this one.
What they WILL object to is Benedict XVI's latest statement on the protection of the family and the unborn.
America is the "loyal opposition" when it comes to our responsibility to conforming to the Bride of Christ, while it remains blindly loyal to and uncritical of the president-elect, who is the vicar of the culture of death. America mag and its blod is "cool with" the culture of death.

It seems as if millions of so-called Christians, including self-righteous/self canonized Catholics, sold their souls (to Al Franken and B. H. Obama) for free health; free lunch; something for nothing; class (Thou shalt not covet . . .) envy/hatred; and the deconstruction of the (unfair to 20% of people) capitalist system.
Lord have mercy!
