The Vatican has lowered the boom on the use of the word "Yaweh" in liturgical music in America.
In other news: Cardinal Roger Mahony and his hideous "Gather Faithlessly Together" (the no-kneeling directive) remain untouched, as do pro-abortion politicians and Gay and Lesbian potlucks everywhere.

I learn more on Catholicism here than I do at my parish. Sometimes I think an alien might not detect many differences between some Catholic churchs and Unitarians.

The letters from USCCB and CDW can be read here:

On a similar topic, was there a directive published about the "voice of God" hymns? I thought there was some time back, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know?

I don't think there was an official directive. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) I do know that my parish seems to have tripled the use of them since the Pope said it was a bad idea.

Karen,
could you point me to a source for the Pope's discouraging these hymns? I remember something from back in the spring, but I didn't copy it, and haven't been able to find anything searching online.
Thanks!

I mentioned this post to a friend of mine, who promptly banged on the table and said "Blessed be God! It's about time."
I, however, am in the same boat as Susan. My reaction was "Who knew?", and my family traces our Catholic faith back to when St. Patrick hit Ireland!
