The Best Laid Plans of Mice, Men and Exhausted Writer/Producers
So, the great Mass at St. Victor's fell prey to total fatigue. I ended up sleeping all afternoon instead. Which means that tomorrow, I get the adventure of trying to find a Mass that is (a) relatively close to home (b) at least orthodox enough to keep me from coming home in a bad mood and (c) Nascar-friendly.
There are a couple of other variables. We could go to St. Charles Borromeo (in the picture here) so I could show Chris the hideous miniature of the homo-errotic crucifix the pastor plans to put up in place of the absolutely gorgeous crucifix that is there. I could even take my camera and take some pictures after Mass, and post them here complete with a good rant.
Or we could go to the church that is close to our house, why we might discover all new heresies. But, we'll probably just stick with Good Shepherd: bad music, non-infuriating homily, defiant kneeling.
When we are in Orlando, if we don't want to go to our church for some reason (like the singing priest has Mass), we go to the cathedral, which we can always count on for a lovely liturgical experience.

and a well earned nap at that!!!

You should try St. Genevieve's in Panorama City. If SFDS is near you, then just head up Woodman and take a left on Roscoe. I usually go to the 8am mass. The liturgical abuses are at a minimum and there are three young priests that I like very much.

If you want to be historically accurate, crucifixes should be more "homoerotic". Historians agree that those crucified were completely naked.

I'm sure you needed the rest, Karen. If it's any consolation, our musical selections last night were not as compelling as usual. Heck, we even sang a number by Haas at one point. (Don't ask me which. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

We were registered members in St Gen's for years. It isn't bad, as LA churches go. Nice pipe organ, and the men and boy's choir was a major pull for my husband to get more involved in his faith.
however..... it's still LA
